Screen Shot 2014-03-31 at 10.07.19 AMA new randomized controlled study published in Pediatrics found that preschool children attending daycare who were given a daily dose of Lactobacillus reuteri had fewer episodes and duration of diarrhea, fewer respiratory tract infections, and needed fewer antibiotics.  The effect sizes were quite significant with 69 episodes of diarrhea in the placebo group vs. 42 in the probiotics group; for respiratory tract illness there were 204 respiratory illness vs 93 cases in the probiotic group.
